Kura Kainga Care is a Māori babysitting agency who provides Hire a Whaea cultural childcaring services. We connect Whanau with babysitters - or Whaea - who go to the Whanau home to care for and also engage tamariki in learning about Māori culture.

We are all about empowering our Whaea by providing opportunities to make an income while doing something meaningful and purposeful while also being in control and self-determining over the hours and days that you work .

It’s ok if you only know the basics of Te Reo Māori ! We are passionate about creating a community and culture of continuous learning for tamariki and for Whaea too .

As a Whaea you will get access to trainings, workshops and personal and professional development opportunities so that we all grow and learn together .

As a bonus you also receive one of our custom made resource boxes to take on jobs with you which include poi, tīrakau, wooden flashcards and tohu discs !

    • Current Blue Card

    • Current First Aid

    • Current CPR Certificate

    • Experience working with tamariki /children

    • Public Liability Insurance

      There is a monthly subscription fee of $10 to contribute towards the Insurance Policy that we have taken out to cover us all

  • As a Whaea you are acting as an independant sub-contractor representing the business brand and kaupapa of Kura Kainga Care .

    We offer you babysitting job opportunities you with Whanau seeking care and you get paid directly from them for your services.

    • A knowledge of basic Te Reo Māori, waiata and stories or a willingness to learn and implement these in your practice as a Whaea

    • Attendance at monthly staff meetings, trainings and team building sessions.

    • Good time management and communication skills.

    • An understanding that we are not just babysitters but teachers playing an active role in the education of the tamariki in our care

    • Having fun and engaging tamariki with our custom- made resource boxes

    • Being open to learning and continuous professional and personal development and trainings

    • Conduct yourself in a professional but casual and comfortable manner

    • Keep a reflective journal of your jobs as a record of practice (optional).

    • Take photos and videos of children learning to share with parents, and to share with management for social media purposes (only when permission of the parents has been given in their Client Contract).

    • Keeping management informed of your availability

    • You decide what days and hours you are available to work. You choose the jobs that you would like to take.

    • You receive one of our custom made resource boxes for you to take on jobs to teach and engage the tamariki

    • You join a supportive team of mana wāhine who are wanting to grow and learn

    • You make a positive impact on tamariki by connecting them to their culture

    • You receive access to trainings, workshops and continuous support and personal and professional development
